NLC against child labour


The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal government to develop proactive  measures and policies to eliminate child labour  in the country.

The call was made by the President of the union, Mr Ayuba Wabba at the World Day Against Child labour in Geneva, Switzerland.

  
According to the News Agency of Nigeria,  Mr  Wabba gave the assurance that the labour movement  would continue   to create awareness on the  issue of child labour and would profer solutions on how the country would confront it.
" We have raised the issue over time, most especially in making sure that we  have labour inspectors that would be able to inspect those factories working through the sectorial Unions to be able to address those issus. We remain committed to that".
June 12, every year is set aside to mark the World Day Against Child Labour to create awareness on the issue  so as to reduce the ill. The theme of this year each event  is ' Yes to Quality Education'
Information  from the International  Liberty  Organization, estimated over 168 million children are in child labour in2015, with 120 million aged between five to 14 years.
It would be noted that  the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989)  was domesticated  in the Country culminating in the Child' s Right Act (2003).
